David’s Electric Car Blog

Obama just told us how we will save money with the new gas /electric cars do you buy all this ?

We have already been told the new energy bill that is in the works now will cause our energy prices to sky rocket, so you will save money on gas, but how much more will it cost you on your energy bill to plug your car in everyday ? these cars are not money saving for people who drive over 30 to 50 miles each way to work, the batteries don’t last that long. I live in a rural area and plug them in won’t be a big problem at home for us, but what about all the people in the city where they have to park on the streets or have to buy a parking spot, that cost will most certainly be passed on to you ! So isn’t it robbing Peter to pay Paul !
Dude I know that but you didn’t answer the question !
Well I see my stalker has shown her face, under yet another name she was using Paul Grass earlier today, now Payton Carter ! She knows nothing about me or my life and really needs to find one of her own !

I’m still trying to understand if were going to use electric cars do we not need fuel to make the electricity to charge the battery’s for the millions of users.Fuel for the makers of the products. This will over load our consumption of electricty causing more fossel fuel to generate it.

Are electric cars actually fast, cool, and affordable today?

I am seeing news about new car companies popping up selling electric cars. They seem like they’re finally getting it right. They’re big, fast, look cool, and can drive from A to B without needed to be recharged. So far, what is out there and what is on the horizon?

The hype is a bit ahead of the car.

The Tesla Roadster is probably the most exciting car that’s actually being produced. It’s fast, has a range over 200 miles and looks cool. It’s small and costs $99,000, so not really a commuter car.

The Phoenix motorcars truck is very cool, it’s $45,000, but due to needing tax credits it’s only being sold to fleets. It’s got a lower range of around 150 miles, a slightly lower performance level and not as cool, but it’s got the huge advantage of being able to recharge in less than 10 minutes, if you have a charging unit.

The rest of the production cars now are more what people used to think of electrics, slow, small and long charging without much range.

What’s coming up that’s the most exciting to me is the Chevy Volt. It’s a series hybrid, which is totally different from the Prius. It has an all electric range of 40 miles, which covers over 80% of the average drivers commute. After that 40 miles a generator kicks in charging the battery. The generator can be of any type, gas, diesel, fuel cell or something crazy that comes out.

The range without consideration to the battery is 600 miles, the mpg is supposed to be 50 after it’s purely generator driven, so there is NO convenience issue with this car.

I think this is the car that can change things, under $30k price tag as well. 2010, and production development is underway, so don’t let people tell you it’s GM hype. The car was in union contract to be built in the U.S. so if you’re patriotic that’s a bonus as well.

Every big car company is coming out with prototypes now, and some look good, the suburu has the model I like the best as far as looks, but no stats have been released.

Will people need to get new licences for the new age cars - electric etc?

A few upcling EVs will be three-wheeled vehicles classified as motorcycles, so people may need to get motocycle class licenses to drive them. For example:

http://zapworld.com/electric-vehicles/electric-cars/zap-alias

However, most EVs and all plug-in hybrids will be regular four-wheeled vehicles which drive just like regular cars, so no new licenses will be required.

electric cars still need fossil fuels to make electricity?

When people say "Oh look at my new electric car, im saving the enviornment," it still takes fossil fuels to make the electricity to charge the car, so….

…while the car might not be burning the fuel, fossil fuels are still being used.

Whats the argument here?

NUCLEAR POWER = NO FOSSIL FUELS
WIND TURBINES = NO FOSSIL FUELS
SOLAR PANELS = NO FOSSIL FUELS
ETC. ETC. ETC.

There are many ways of producing electrical power with no fossil fuels. And even though we’re still highly dependent on coal and oil, the alternatives are becoming more realistic and more prevalent. Eventually, electric vehicles will be supplied by cleaner sources. For now, there are still many advantages - even if much of the power comes from fossil fuel based electricity.

will gas go up when the new electric cars come out?

or will gas go down? Tell me what you know please.
but my dad said no one would buy them if gas doesnt go up

The lead time on developing electric cars is many years.

the lead time to discovering and taking new oil to market is also many years.

As both of these are being developed, laws and subsidies are being developed too.

many companies are investing in both. Yes as the cost of gasoline goes up, the motivation to go electric also goes up, and the inverse is also true.

However, there is significant fear in a new technology, and its costs and limitations.

Smart money is betting on a new breed of plug-in electric hybrid car with lots of batteries and a small gas engine that could charge the batteries and continue on with a trip of moderate length.

The costs/performance of the batteries and, the proof/disproof of global warming also have significant impacts on these cars.

This recession and decreased demand for oil has bought us 2 or 3 years of moderated gasoline prices.

When the economy heats up again, if ever, we will find that fuel costs will be worse than ever. Then the costs of electric vehicles will go up as the demand ramps up rapidly.

WE might buy ourselves another 5 years of EV development time by switching to the T Boone Pickens Natural gas for Trucking program.

So its not a simple equation. But certainly worthy of a your attention,

do you know about the new electric cars coming out 2010?

Your probably referring to the Chevrolet Volt. Introduction has been delayed again. It would probably be faster to build your own.

Likely up ..they will claim the lack of demand makes higher prices necessary
