What do think to this car i just bought? Fair deal?

I just bought this Renault Clio which looks like this but in a darker shade of blue:

http://www.nextcar.com.au/rt.i.renault.clio.renaultsport.182.left.JPG

It cost £1,500. Its my first car because i’m a first time driver. But it has problems with it. It came with 12months MOT but no tax. Its a 2002 car. The passenger window is electric and doesn’t work, the radio doesn’t work and its tape player. And we don’t know what to do about that. It drives perfectly and its a nice car to drive, but i don’t know what to do about the window and radio. Oh yeah and the steering wheel is really warn out, as in the leather on it has warn down. The passenger side mirror is abit smashed but you can still see out of it. The back seats are abit mucky, looks like some little kid has bin eating sweets and got it everywhere. And a little rip in it. The passenger chair recliner has snapped off so you can put it forwards or backwards but its in a ok position anyway.

What do you think?

I think you got a bloody good buy. It would of made that going through the auction ring. The minor faults you describe are just part and parcel of older cheap cars.

What will make me more "ready" and prepared to have a baby?

I am in my mid 20s and I want to start having kids before I’m in my 30s. (especially since my mom had tons of pregnancy complications by her mid 30s, and reached early menopause by 39 or 40!) I was angry when people told me I "wasn’t ready" and should "get an abortion" when I was pregnant 2 yrs ago. The reason I was angry was because I was being a responsible frugal person yet people still didn’t see me to be as "good enough" at becomming a mom as other ‘expecting’ people approx my age. When I miscarried, I was hurt that I wasn’t able to "meet" my baby and also prove how capable I truly felt I was. Since then, I’ve worked my butt off to become more prepared than ever for the next time I hopefully fall pregnant. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

- have an HMO insurance plan with maternity coverage
- have a full-time office job a part-time second job for extra cash
- kept up with my bills, and paid off debt and loans several years early
- have a college degree (well, actually this was completed even before my miscarriage in 06)
- I am conservative with living expenses — e.g., I take mass transit despite having more than 1 running car, my electric bill rarely exceeds $25/mo, I shop the bargain rack at Value City, etc.
- I read up on pregnancy books and forums all the time so I’d know what to expect
- I’ve already designed a budget for pregnancy first year baby expenses, and factored that into my current income
- I’m kind to children and unlike everybody else on the bus, I don’t mind if babies on bus or train start crying. I just continue to smile sweetly at them.
- I’m a law abiding citizen that does good to others. I’m not going to get arrested anytime soon!
- Speaking of…I don’t do any illegal drugs and I only drink rarely. I do not smoke.

Oh but apparently Axy STILL doesn’t think I’m "ready" for a baby:

WTF? What is the point if tolerating screaming babies on the bus and even taking the bus at all to save money towards having a baby, if people are going to STILL see me as "not ready"??

I’m almost 26, the age that my parents and most of my friends’ parents were when they had us…the age that a lot of people are starting to have kids at. Please do not tell me I’m immature for my age after I’ve worked so freakin hard.

What else does it take?? What else does it take to prove that I really AM ready to get pregnant???? WTF?
EDIT: It appears Axy has changed her screenname to catdog_7.
Fraggler, I DO feel ready…I’m just trying to convey this to others. I’m sick and tired of people telling me that I’ll "ruin my life" if I have a kid(yes, people STILL tell me that to this day!), yet they’ll congratulate the very people that have stolen from me, betrayed me, or cheated on me, on THEIR pregnancies. I’m sick of it.
Dawniesu, thank you for supporting me. I wish I’d think Axy is jealous, but to be 100% honest I do not think ‘jealous’ is what she is. I wrote that *I* was jealous that a jerk(who stole from me in the past) was having a baby and getting congratulated whereas I was flamed and then miscarried. If anything, I was probably the jealous one…who knows, maybe she’s the jerk’s baby momma for all I know.

You sound like your ready but in all honesty if all women waited until they were ready a lot of them would not of had any kids i know ,i was never ready even though i could afford it but still had my girls and I’m glad i did

should i sell my car? car payment is $360?

i already know that i would be upside down on the car. i was thinking of trading it in. i have an 06 dodge stratus. now i love the car. i’ve always had trouble with used cars. it feels great to have a new car. i feel like either way im gonna put money into a car. whether its repairs or a car payment. i just know that getting a used car would definitely free up some money. right now here are my bills. $825- rent. car insurance -$226. cable- $75. cell phone- family plan. - $90 bucks. utilities- gas, water and electric. now its me and my girlfriend together with 2 kids ages 4 and 2. so with 2 incomes we do have money left over after bills, but with the price of gas, its not as much as we would like. so should i sell the car? or am i just being cheap

you want to sell it in because of gas prices?? do you have a good interest rate? because if you don’t and you’ve had the car for awhile maybe you can refinance and save some money. if you sell it and you still owe than it’s worth, than you’re still wasting money, whether it’s on gas, or paying for the car. (by the way where do you live that you have such a low rent??? i wish ours was that good, haha!)

If I made say a bigger version of those electric ride on toys could I…?

Could I drive them on the sidewalk to my friends house? Like an electric go-cart almost, but the the Caddilac Escaldes that little kids ride around on. I was think of making a bigger one so I could drive to my friends house about 2 mile away. Is it legal to ride that even though I am under 16. It would be electric and I live in California. Would I have to wear a helmet? What are the laws.
Thanks
Mason

NOTE: the vehcile would consist of real road car tires (small ones ;) an electric engine, maybe 2. It would have a seat, but probably no windscreen, I mean, we are talking bare bones go cart. Just to save me pedaling and walking 2 miles. ;) tia!

Simply put, it would have to qualify as street legal.

I can definitely say that you CANNOT use to the sidewalk to drive to your friends house. The sidewalk is for pedestrians. Even bicycles aren’t supposed to ride on the sidewalk.

So that puts on you on the road. You’d have to check with the California DOT as to what qualifies as street legal. But they usually mandate brake lights, turn signals, mirrors, etc.

How does it make a child feel when their parents yell at them?

I haven’t yelled at my kids in a long time. The last time I yelled it was to keep my toddler from driving his match-box car into an electric outlet…(and it hurt his feelings, he cried)
And… my parents yelled at me a lot, but I can’t remember at all how it made me feel.
So, I was wondering how kids feel when parents, grandparents, teachers, whatever adult in charge - when they get yelled at.
anybody know? or remember how it felt to them? or just theories on how you think they may feel?

i am almost 17, and i really never get yelled at; i dont do things to get yelled at for.. haha. but when i do, i feel hopeless, almost, because regardless of who your parents are, you feel like you can’t fight back.

for example, if you get yelled at for sneaking out; they are so mad and you are so upset that you feel like you can’t present your argument without getting in more trouble.. so you give up.

Supporting kids and paying bills w/no job?

I live in a 1 bd/1 ba apartment complex..everyday I see most of my neighbors at home, drinking, sitting around, with atleast 2+ children…I won’t say what race.

What I always wanted to know is exactly how much money does the government give– for these people to be able to pay for electric bills, car payments, cable/ internet, constant alcohol consumption/ smoking habits, children’s food/ clothing…I mean they can survive without working, while some peopole work everyday and barely are able to pay for bills/ daycare, etc..

IIt’s the biggest mystery to me..someone enlighten me please.

There are alot of people like this in the world. They have there hand out and always want someone to support them. I am sure they are goverment assistance. There are alot of freeloaders in the world I have no use for them b/c I feel if you are hungry enough you will go flip burgers, waitress anything to feed your kids. I have worked fast food to take care of my kids and would do it again. I have no use for lazy people…

Who would I get to install a train horn on my car?

No kidding….. I’m not sure where I should get an electric or air horn… any suggestions?

A real train horn will not work. The voltage is not the same.

RC car parts, I need to get wheels for my RC car, where is the best site to shop?

I have a Radio Shack Golden Arrow, circa approx mid 90s, I need to get new rubber, not sure of the scale (how to find out?), is there a good place for regular old parts for these things? This is electric. Just invested $26 in new pack and charger so I’d like to get this thing up to par for my kid so I can get a gas powered! WoooHOO

I don’t know if they have direct replacements for the Radio Shack cars but try Tower Hobbies.
THey have a LARGE selection of tires &* wheels

Where is a good small comunity to move to where there is no snow and great for kids? Near the Ocean hopefully!

I have lived in Alaska since 1987, and ready for something else. The only other place I lived was in Columbus Ohio. My wife is from Idaho, We have 4 kids: 18, 13, 13, 8. Love the ocean so somewhere within a few hours drive would be nice. We do not do any drugs or party so a smaller close knit community would be nice. My wife does assisted living / elderly care so she should not have a hard time finding a job anywhere. I have always been around auto electric shops and car audio so it should not be a problem either. We have been looking at areas in Texas and Nevada, but do not know the area well enough. Any help would be appreciated and we plan on leaving here in about 3 months after we sell our house. Thanks!!!

Greenville, Honoraville, Highland Home,Luverne,or Brantley Alabama they are always looking for people to assist with elderly people in Greenville & there is a nursing home in Luverne that usually needs good people, check the cities online to see if they offer what you want.
Check online at
http://www.jobsearch.org/
for jobs before you move.
