A hybrid (gasoline-electric) car can travel between 45 and 68 miles per million of gasoline. If gasoline costs $2 a gallon, what would be the range in gasoline cost,c, for a hybrid car to travel 500 miles?
A.$7.35(less than/equal to)c(less than/equal to)$11.11
B.$11.25(less than/equal to)c(less than/equal to)$17.00
C.$14.70(less than/equal to)c(less than/equal to)$22.22
D.$90.00(less than/equal to)c(less than/equal to)$136.00

seating @4.50 ea. 375=1687.50 total ticket sale proceeds1687.50×8%=135
cautious crew will earn 250+135=$385

cautious crew =1687.50-385 or 1302.50
muskrocket=1687.50-500 or 1187.50

can’t the government tax the oil companies really hard so they will drop the prices.?

I mean I understand other countries charging us a bunch for gas. but what about the United states based companies. do they know that if they sale their oil by like $10 a barrel cheaper they will make 10 times more money. can’t the U.S tax other companies taxes based on how much they make and force them to drop the price.

right now virginia is like the cheapest in the US and the cheapest I can find is $3.31 a gallon.

it seems to be cheaper to go thousands of dollars in debt to buy a electric car or something then to pay so much for gas. I mean at this rate buy July we will be paying over $4.00 a gallon, and yall poor people in California will be paying well over $6.00.

the government needs to do something, they are the only people who can.
I’m going have to start taking stuff off my car to save gas. like back seat spare tires, try and buy lighter rims, anything that isn’t exstreamly important
I know all the inflation thing and they will pass the taxes on to us but can’t we do something like a treaty or something with the people who do. I mean I can’t afford gas on minimum wage and still live, I mean I eat one time a day and can only spend but $3.00 a day in food, the rest is gas and rent. now come one, can the goverment raise minumum wage or something.
all the power companies that powers my community is nuclear. and as for the electric car it cost only about $4.40 per charge. at 220 miles a charge. which equals to about the same as 2 cents a gallon. and it only takes but 3 hours for a full charge. now is that a reason to buy a $100,000 Tesla roaster, when most people go buy a $60,000 hummer or big SUV and pay almost $4.00 a gallan in gas, after having the truck for two years. you could have had a tesla that would stay at a price of electricity.

What you propose will raise prices even more. The oil companies are partly to blame for the high cost of gas. They are constricting supply by not investing money in extra refining capacity. President Bush has actually given tax cuts that are aimed at encouraging companies to do this. But for the oil companies whats in it for them to build more refineries? Until the economics make sense, there isn’t much incentives, is there?if they can keep supplies constricted, they are more than happy.if a refinery goes down,do u think they are in a hurry to repair it?
So tax cuts go to waste,Haliburton runs away to Dubai and you’re right, we might as well tax the heck out of them.
Another thing, though off topic to this is,the blame should also go to all the people that drive SUV s and other inefficient cars with bad MPG. We didn’t care to change our habits when we had time, didn’t learn lessons from 70s and we badly want to show off.I already see cracks in this superpower, its a shame we’ve only been that way 60 yrs.

Why more lies on the amount of"energy"in ethanol or biodiesel?Ethanol engines need higher compression ratios!?

The "most profitable business ever", Exxon\Mobil and other petroleum companies should lose all their tax credits for these lies. Car company engineers know they can make an E-85 engine get better mileage by upping the compression ratios, but they refuse to build it, because they know it would be a cleaner longer lasting engine, and if it lasts longer, then they lose their replacement sales of another auto. Please watch "Who killed the electric car" movie to learn the truth about how they are in cahoots, with President Bush’s help, to give the U.S. consumers a more oil dependent transportation system. GM’s Greed killed the EV-1, as a former shareholder, I see why Toyota will soon be #1.
It’s called foresight! Use it or lose it.
Yahoo, why are helping us be fooled again, by this petroleum propaganda?

please read this to see some truths behind the atrocities on behalf of Ethanol

Global warming is a really destructive situation.
But not half as destructive right now ,as what the USA is planning.

They are insane intending to replace most of the indigenous Forrest’s in the world ,with mono cultures for the production of Ethanol,

Non sustainable, chemically grown ,heavily irrigated (with water needed for communities)one specie Forrest’s,that have only plagues of insects as fauna which are controlled with pesticides.

Killing all bio diversity,in both flora and fauna ,adding to the destruction and extinction of species ,like nothing we have ever seen before.

All in the quest for alternative energy and to save the Environment ,

The irony here is that the growing eagerness to slow climate change by using biofuels and planting millions of trees for carbon credits has resulted in new major causes of deforestation, say activists. And that is making climate change worse because deforestation puts far more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire world’s fleet of cars, trucks, planes, trains and ships combined.

"Biofuels are rapidly becoming the main cause of deforestation in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Brazil," said Simone Lovera, managing coordinator of the Global Forest Coalition, an environmental NGO based in Asunción, Paraguay. "We call it ‘deforestation diesel’," Lovera told IPS.

Oil from African palm trees is considered to be one of the best and cheapest sources of biodiesel and energy companies are investing billions into acquiring or developing oil-palm plantations in developing countries. Vast tracts of forest in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and many other countries have been cleared to grow oil palms. Oil palm has become the world’s number one fruit crop, well ahead of bananas.

Biodiesel offers many environmental benefits over diesel from petroleum, including reductions in air pollutants, but the enormous global thirst means millions more hectares could be converted into monocultures of oil palm. Getting accurate numbers on how much forest is being lost is very difficult.

The FAO’s State of the World’s Forests 2007 released last week reports that globally, net forest loss is 20,000 hectares per day — equivalent to an area twice the size of Paris. However, that number includes plantation forests, which masks the actual extent of tropical deforestation, about 40,000 hectares (ha) per day, says Matti Palo, a forest economics expert who is affiliated with the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE) in Costa Rica.

"The half a million ha per year deforestation of Mexico is covered by the increase of forests in the U.S., for example," Palo told IPS.

National governments provide all the statistics, and countries like Canada do not produce anything reliable, he said. Canada has claimed no net change in its forests for 15 years despite being the largest producer of pulp and paper. "Canada has a moral responsibility to tell the rest of the world what kind of changes have taken place there," he said.

Plantation forests are nothing like natural or native forests. More akin to a field of maize, plantation forests are hostile environments to nearly every animal, bird and even insects. Such forests have been shown to have a negative impact on the water cycle because non-native, fast-growing trees use high volumes of water. Pesticides are also commonly used to suppress competing growth from other plants and to prevent disease outbreaks, also impacting water quality.

Plantation forests also offer very few employment opportunities, resulting in a net loss of jobs. "Plantation forests are a tremendous disaster for biodiversity and local people," Lovera said. Even if farmland or savanna are only used for oil palm or other plantations, it often forces the local people off the land and into nearby forests, including national parks, which they clear to grow crops, pasture animals and collect firewood. That has been the pattern with pulp and timber plantation forests in much of the world, says Lovera.

Ethanol is other major biofuel, which is made from maize, sugar cane or other crops. As prices for biofuels climb, more land is cleared to grow the crops. U.S. farmers are switching from soy to maize to meet the ethanol demand. That is having a knock on effect of pushing up soy prices, which is driving the conversion of the Amazon rainforest into soy, she says. Meanwhile rich countries are starting to plant trees to offset their emissions of carbon dioxide, called carbon sequestration. Most of this planting is taking place in the South in the form of plantations, which are just the latest threat to existing forests. "Europe’s carbon credit market could be disastrous," Lovera said.

The multi-billion-euro European carbon market does not permit the use of reforestation projects for carbon credits. But there has been a tremendous surge in private companies offering such credits for tree planting projects. Very little of this money goes to small land holders, she says. Plantation forests also contain much less carbon, notes Palo, citing a recent study that showed carbon content of plantation forests in some Asian tropical countries was only 45 percent of that in the respective natural forests. Nor has the world community been able to properly account for the value of the enormous volumes of carbon stored in existing forests.

One recent estimate found that the northern Boreal forest provided 250 billion dollars a year in ecosystem services such as absorbing carbon emissions from the atmosphere and cleaning water. The good news is that deforestation, even in remote areas, is easily stopped. All it takes is access to some low-cost satellite imagery and governments that actually want to slow or halt deforestation. Costa Rica has nearly eliminated deforestation by making it illegal to convert forest into farmland, says Lovera.

Paraguay enacted similar laws in 2004, and then regularly checked satellite images of its forests, sending forestry officials and police to enforce the law where it was being violated. "Deforestation has been reduced by 85 percent in less than two years in the eastern part of the country," Lovera noted. The other part of the solution is to give control over forests to the local people. This community or model forest concept has proved to be sustainable in many parts of the world. India recently passed a bill returning the bulk of its forests back to local communities for management, she said.

However, economic interests pushing deforestation in countries like Brazil and Indonesia are so powerful, there may eventually be little natural forest left. "Governments are beginning to realize that their natural forests have enormous value left standing," Lovera said. "A moratorium or ban on deforestation is the only way to stop this."

Fossil fuel addicted media?

Why has there been no UK media coverage of environmentally friendly cars like the Tesla, www.tesla.com, being built by Lotus, Norfolk; and why is it not for sale in UK where petrol is much more expensive than California
first UK report: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/news/inbusiness/inbusiness.shtml

Why did "top gear" race a jet dragster when there is a professional British team with an electric car that should do 350-400 mph http://www.speedace.info/bluebird_electric_3.htm

The goverment make less in taxes on electricity.

Survey: Whats the funniest customer complaint you have heard?

So, I work for an electric provider and this woman called to complain on another agent. She told me that " he was so rude he should be working as a used car sales man"…. I started giggling which in turn made her laugh… she appologized for saying the used car thing. but said that he was rude. we both left the call with a smile…

Once when I was waiting tables, a woman complained because our guacamole dip was made with avocados instead of guacamole’s!

From a Geopolitical view why is Ford with a 17B dollar loss and 20B in mortgaged assets still in business?

It seems obvious to me Ford is completely unwilling to build cars that:
1) dont break down
2) are fuel effecient
I am not bashing america BTW I want to know what is actually going on and why a company that has been in business 100 yrs suddenly cant compete.
Please give honest answers and try to solve the problem rather than attitudes.

If you have seen the Tesla electric car it shows it can be built!! I bet if Ford would mass produce electric cars they would take the lead in sales again.

—————-
Well, the reliability issue is just a bad rap. Ford earned this poor reputation a long time ago, but no longer deserves it. If you study quality metrics, you will see that all the manufacturers are now very close to each other in build quality.
*
The fuel efficiency, and electric car issues, however, are very interesting to me. In addition to the Tesla electric sports car, take a look at the Phoenix:
*
http://phoenixmotorcars.com/models/fleet.html
*
This car, based on new battery research, can travel up to 250 miles per charge, cruises at 95mph with 5 passengers and cargo, can be charged in only ten minutes, and the batteries are good for at least 200,000 miles.
*
Yet, last I heard, Ford is still not even looking at plug-in hybrids. I don’t believe any of the Detroit car companies will get serious about this issue until foreign competition makes them. This attitude does not come from malice, but rather from inertia. Nobody likes to have to learn to do things a different way - especially large corporations.
*
In my opinion, the first mass-market electric car will come from China. The Chinese have developed a propulsion Lithium battery which sells for about a tenth what competing batteries cost:
*
http://www.everspring.net/product-battery.htm
*
There is already an importer working to bring Chinese EVs here, at prices comparable to what gas-powered cars sell for. See below:

Electric Solar Panel Model SM-1000-12V.?

I bought bit at a car boot sale! Does anyone know how many Watts it is? its made in china, not too modern, but it does work!

My guess is that it produces 12 volts at probably 1000 mA, or 1 amp, of current for 12 watts of power. This would be typical values. I didn’t find anything on the web for this model.

What is the relationship between Big Oil and LA’s Red Car mass transit system?

Until 1925- Los Angele had the largest public mass transit system in the world.

Bar none- bigger than the Tube, the Metro and NY’s Subway.

In 1949, nine corporations, including General Motors, Standard Oil of California, Firestone Tire and 7 individuals, constituting officers and directors of certain of the corporate defendants, were convicted in a second count of conspiring to monopolize the sale of buses and related products to local transit companies controlled by the defendants.

by 1952 the world’s largest light rail system had been ripped up over 1000 miles of track.

In years to follow- LA became US’s worst polluter. Many commentators directly blame loss of affordable mobility for the rise in severe crime.
Today millions have been invested to renew light rail, but Metro link is but a mere shadow with 73.2 miles of track compared to Pacific Electrics’ Red Car Line.

See how Big Oil treats Americans like what comes out of a dog’s bottom?

and whats the question?
